My name is Lynn Rathbun, and I’ve lived on the Central Coast of California for the past 25 years.  Before moving here, I lived and studied on the East Coast, in Europe and the Middle East. I’ve had lots of different jobs in various professions, including goat farmer, biological technician, field assistant, nurseryman, and illustrator - although not necessarily in that order.   My interests are pretty diverse, and they all show up in my work.

Basically, I’m self-taught, as it was always important for me to go my own way and not follow the herd. I love to try new methods, techniques, and mediums. Whatever I’m excited about painting at the moment often determines the medium, and lately working in encaustic has been very liberating and great fun. 

Painters who inspire me most are Da Vinci, Vermeer, Matisse, Bonnard, Klimt and Schiele.  But the greatest joy and delight of all comes from the beauty and diversity of Nature, and my fellow artists.   I want to help people to really SEE and appreciate their world.
